Folklife Collection - The Personal Experience Narrative: A Jewish Immigrant Success Story

by Salisbury University Students (1984)

1 folder (0.1 linear feet)

In a series of interviews of local Eastern Shore residents in 1984, Salisbury University students and teachers collected folk life material. For her project, Christine Krispie Ferber put the emphasis on personal experience narrative. She interviewed Mr. Harold Greenspan, a Jewish businessman who operated on the boardwalk of Ocean City, Maryland. The interview covers the personal story of Mr. Greenspan from Poland to the United States, and how he became prosperous. His personal story also reveal some historical facts about the anti-semitic environment in Europe of that time from his perspective, and the difficulties he had to face when settling in Ocean City. Some Jewish customs and traditions are also discussed. Tape and photographs enclosed.
